How to Detox Your Body Naturally

Doctors believe that each and every healthy person has a specific tolerance level for toxins which allows it to maintain a biochemical balance within the body. Theory says that when the toxin levels are at or below a certain level, the body has the capability to adapt and eliminate them on its own. But when the toxin levels overflow, the body’s defensive mechanism stops working and symptoms like chronic tiredness, confusion and irritability can appear. Learn how to detoxify your body here.

Do I Need to Detox My Body?

You can easily find out if you need to cleanse your body with some tests. Blood, urine, stool tests and hair analysis can indicate the necessity of a detox diet for a little while. However not all doctors are familiar with such tests and some practitioners might be wary towards testing toxin levels. You will firstly need a practitioner who understands how beneficial a detox diet can be so that he can guide you through the process.

The Most Powerful Ways to Detox Body and Mind

How to Detox Your Body

How to Detox Your Body

There are a few ways that can help you with the body cleanse. The most common but drastic detox diet is a juice cleanse. This would mean that for a number of days you would only homemade juice made with fresh fruits and vegetables. Another way is to eat only raw foods for a certain period of time – eat only things that are alive – for example, no meat. Read and follow my daily guide about 5 day detox diet plan (safe detox plan).

However, some people like to detox both their mind and their body and they decide to completely change their lifestyle by adopting a vegetarian or a vegan diet. Religion can also help you detox your body through fasting. Christians, for example have certain periods of time for fasting – i.e. they don’t eat anything that comes from animals for a longer period of time or they fast for a day and they don’t eat anything, except drinking water.

5 Major Detox Diet Rules

  1. Eat lots of vegetables. Vegetables are healthy, rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fibers.
  2. Drink a gallon of liquids per day. It can be in any form: water, tea, soup. Liquids will help “wash” your body from the inside out and eliminate a bunch of toxins.
  3. Always go for whole wheat bread and whole grains. Whether its pasta, rice or cereal, choosing whole is the best option because you get the most of it and it’s less processed.
  4. Rediscover beans, peas, nuts and almonds. These make for great snacks and contain a lot of proteins, thus help keeping you energized and full throughout the day.
  5. Give up alcohol, smoking and soda. This is the most important part of a detox. If you drink or smoke, trying to detoxify your body is useless because you’re forcing toxins into your body’s tissues and organs on a regular basis.

Simple and Easy Detox Diet in a Day

Start your day with a tall glass of room temperature water – you can add a squirt of lemon as well. While making your breakfast, chunk down on a cup of tea. Breakfast could be some whole organic cereal. You can cut up a banana, add a teaspoon of organic honey and sprinkle some almonds or cashews. For lunch have a big bowl of clear soup made from carrots, potatoes, parsley and peppers. Dinner will consist of a plain salad, no dressing. You can use any type of vegetables you like. Season it with just a pinch of salt and add some nuts for protein or serve them as desert with a little bit of organic honey.

Sweet Treats during Detox

If you have a sweet tooth during any of these days don’t cave. You can have something sweet, healthy, organic and in accordance with your detox diet. Cut up a well ripe banana and set it on a tray in the freezer. When the banana slices are frozen, take them off the tray and place them into a ziplock bag. Keep them in the freezer and grab a couple of pieces when you want to taste something sweet. You can do the same thing with grapes. Just make sure to wash grapes thoroughly first and dry them well before placing them in the freezer.

It’s a good idea to opt for a detox diet on a regular basis. Before and after winter it’s always good. But after holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving you might also want to consider a juice cleanse to help your body gets back on its feet. You will notice that after a detox diet you will be a lot more energetic, you will be able to do many more things and you might even feel like your self esteem has improved if you dropped a couple of pounds during the detox.

All You Need to Know About Juice Cleanse and Green Juice Cleanse Recipes

Every day your digestive system is assaulted by all manner of dietary nutrients. Apparently, it also needs a rest from this overwhelming process of digestion. This is exactly what a juice cleanse does, apart from flushing out harmful toxins that accumulate inside your body.

What is a Juice Cleanse?

Some people may confuse a juice cleanse (also called a juice fast) with a detox diet. However, there’s a clear difference: while detox diets may include solid fruits and vegetables, juice cleansing only involves fruit and vegetable juice. You can consider juice cleansing as a fluid detox plan that packs in tones of vital nutrients in your body and flushes out harmful toxins from your body. Juicing cleanse, as the name suggests, is only restricted to fluid intake in the form of organic fruit and vegetable juice. Moreover, this must be freshly-made juice. In fact, the best option is instant homemade juice cleanse, rather than store-bought alternatives that are not truly fresh. Freshly-made juices offer more nutrients and efficient elimination of toxins from the body.

Does Juice Cleanse Work?

Varying arguments exist, for and against juice cleansing. Generally, the consensus is that a prolonged juice cleansing period is less beneficial and even potentially detrimental to heath. This is because such an extended period is similar to a crash diet, which can negatively affect normal body processes. However, short juice cleansing periods have been shown to give certain positive impacts in the body. For instance, a 1985 study by Kotkas, L. J., published in the Royal Society of Medicine Journal, identified the positive impact of a particular cleansing procedure in effectively eliminating gallstones. Apart from detoxifying the body, cleansing with vegetable and fruit juice may also assist in stopping such habitual behaviors as overeating and smoking. It can also enhance weight loss programs.

Normally, juice cleansing may last for one to three days. During this period, you may organize a simple homemade juice fast or make it an exotic occasion involving a retreat at a spa-resort. However, there’s much more to any juice fast apart from the cleansing period itself. The time before and after are also crucially vital to the success of juice cleansing. (See Wikipedia about Juice Fasting)

Preparing For Juice Cleansing

A 3-day preparation period is necessary to avoid the shock of transitioning from a full-course meal to a juice-only diet. Such preparation will also enhance your body’s response to the cleansing diet. During this period, certain types of foods must be phased out. These include coffee, dairy, poultry, alcohol, wheat, sugar, artificial sweeteners, and red meat and trans fats. Doing this will avoid typical withdrawal symptoms during cleanse including cravings and headaches. Moreover, eliminating foods likely to interfere with the normal function of your liver will enhance its detoxifying capacity. Just as you eliminate various food types, you must also increase your dietary intake of vegetables, either raw or lightly steamed

During a Juice Cleanse

The major portion of any juice content must be vegetable juice. This is because green vegetables help in cleansing and healing the digestive tract, due to their chlorophyll content. Most juices would include: celery, carrot, kale, cabbage, spinach, apple and beetroot. Avocados and bananas are generally avoided, since they don’t juice well. This also applies to the pits of apricots, peaches, cherries and other fruit. Apple seeds should also be removed before juicing, as well as rhubarb and carrot tops. Pineapples, mangoes and kiwi have tough skins, which should be avoided. Juice cleansing is best done using organic produce. In case, such organic produce is unavailable, you can use a fruit and vegetable wash to remove pesticide residues on fruits and vegetables. You can further enhance the cleansing process by exfoliating your skin using a dry brush. This supports circulation and initiates passage of toxins from the lymph. You can also use essential oils to enhance relaxation during your detox session. These essential oils may be added to your bathwater or used to massage your body. Lavender oil, in particular, contains incredibly calming properties. It’s especially helpful in alleviating headaches caused by caffeine-withdrawal.

After the Juice Cleanse

You must be just as cautious after the juice fast as you were before. In the same manner that you gradually eliminated normal foods from your diet before the juice fast, should you then reintroduce such foods gradually over a period of several days. Doing this will avoid upsetting your digestive system and help your stomach slowly adapt to the changing diet. Eat mainly raw or lightly-steamed vegetables on the day after your juice fast. You may also include fruit and nuts in your diet. Maintain small portion sizes, while avoiding such foods as sugar, wheat, coffee, processed foods and dairy. On the next day, you can include more plant foods, including beans, quinoa and brown rice. Gradually, add more foods into your diet, over the following days until you have fully restored your regular diet.

5 Day Detox Diet for Weight Loss & Cleansing

A detox plan is a natural solution to cleanse your body both internally and externally. Such a body-cleanse process enhances optimal functioning of all your body organs, tissues and even individual cells by getting rid of harmful and disruptive toxins. However, if you’re under medication, you should consult your doctor before starting out on any detox plan. Most probably, your first detox session is way overdue; therefore, let’s start off immediately with a quick and easy 5-day detox plan:

5 Day Detox Diet for Weight Loss

Day 1

Before launching on what you must do, it’s equally important to understand the don’ts. Basically, you must avoid toxic-laden foods. These include: coffee, sugary soft drinks, alcohol, caffeine, as well as foods containing flavorings, refined sugar, additives and refined fats. Generally, stay free of processed foods.

Now for the do’s… A general rule of every detox plan is sticking to organic vegetables and fruits. In fact, locally grown organics would be even better than store-bought produce, since they have fewer toxins derived from artificial pesticides and fertilizers.

Don’t worry, a detox diet is completely different from a slimming diet – you won’t starve to death. The wide variety of legumes, seeds, sprouts and whole grains are enough to keep you satiated.

5 Day Detox Plan

Focus on eating mono-meals or having less variety in each meal in order to ease the pressure on your digestive system. For example:

  • a solid meal consisting of 6 to 7 large bananas
  • a large salad containing nuts and a bit of extra virgin olive oil

If you put in too much variety you’ll only task your digestive system, thus forcing it to work harder and less efficiently. On the other hand, organic foods are rich in fiber, hence you can safely eat much larger volumes than normal.

Day 2

After the diet-transformation in the first day, you should now fully adopt vegetables, seeds and nuts into your diet. Also include healthy snacks at mid afternoon and mid morning times. This will help you curb binging episodes.

You can actually customize your detox plan to suit your own preferences by:

  • eating fruits plainly
  • making smoothies, fruit salads and purees
  • eating vegetables raw in salads
  • making freshly squeezed vegetable juice and vegetable broth

Potatoes, quinoa and brown rice are also acceptable within your detox diet, but in small quantities. Also limit your intake of nuts to only two handfuls per day to avoid excessive fat in your diet.

Even as you make fruit juice, remember that most fruit peels are also beneficial to your health. Such peels contain a useful nutrient called bioflavin.

Day3

If by the third day you are craving toxic sweets and chocolates, there are equally sweet and healthy alternatives. Here’s one sweet recipe you can make in a juicer:

  • 4 oranges
  • 1 pineapple
  • 1 carrot

Water is critically important for your detox plan to work. It helps cleanse your body by flushing out toxins. You can aim to take half your body weight in ounces per day (spread it throughout the day, instead of gulping it all at once).

You can also add a bit of fizz to your water by taking lemon water. Warm lemon water is best taken one hour before breakfast.

Day 4

At this stage you’re ready to move to the next level of the detox-body solution. This involves nutrient-rich super foods such as wheatgrass and spirulina.

Incorporate wheatgrass juice in your diet. This is a very powerful detoxifier that purifies the blood and cleanses the liver.

Spirulina powder may be added to a vegetable salad that includes:

  • celery
  • cabbage
  • cucumber
  • spinach

You can also take some detox supplements before bedtime. These supplements contain a variety of beneficial herbs including: horsetail, burdock, echinacea, licorice, ginger, milk thistle, dandelion, cranberry, slippery elm, chickweed, cayenne, chlorella, turmeric and golden seal.

Day 5

This is the last day to get all those beneficial nutrients into your body. A great way to do so is by taking a cocktail of fruit juices. Grape will also help the body detoxify.

Here’s a combination that’s choke-full of beneficial flavonoids (you can add in a teaspoon of flaxseed oil):

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 lemon

Alternatively, a banana smoothie is a healthy way to fill your appetite (you can add in spinach or lettuce):

  • 5-10 Bananas (depending on how hungry you are)
  • throw in as many strawberries, blueberries or raspberries as you want

After successfully completing your 5-day detox plan, you’re sure to feel more energized, less bloated in the tummy and even have a better skin tone.
